Embracing the digital revolution with business ecards

It’s strange to think that in the not too distant past, computers were exotic things that very few people and organisations had access to. Now, they are an integral part of modern life and like a lot of firms, yours may rely on cyberspace on a minute-to-minute basis.

For example, you might use the web to market and sell your products or services. In addition, cyberspace has become an important means of communicating with customers, colleagues and business partners and there are also lots of web-based systems available to help organisations store information, administer pay and so on. Another fantastic use of the internet concerns the radical uptake in the use of business ecards.

Electronic receipts

Highlighting the rising importance of the web in the world of enterprise, a number of retailers based in London’s West End have started using electronic receipts. In total, 20 stores are trialling the technology and some experts have hailed the move as the biggest change to hit shopping since the introduction of loyalty cards.

Shoppers who use the outlets are able to receive an electronic receipt by swiping a card. This information is then stored in a secure online ‘cloud’ that is accessible through a web portal or via a downloadable app.

Massive impact

Commenting on the development, eReceipts chairman Lord MacLaurin said: “eReceipts has the potential to have the biggest impact on retail since the introduction of loyalty cards. Retailers, consumers and businesses all benefit with retailers being able to utilise customer data to derive a new revenue stream, increase footfall and run their operations more efficiently.

“Combining the obvious benefits for retailers, consumers and businesses with the simplicity of the eReceipts system, we will see the end of the paper receipt.”

Meanwhile, managing director at eReceipts Andrew Carroll added: “Our research shows 90 per cent of individuals would prefer to have receipts digitally stored in a cloud account rather than collecting paper receipts, while 50 per cent of individuals would purposefully buy from a retailer who offered this service over a paper receipt issuer.”
